It’s all about perspective- mix it up with our stay home workout

It’s official, the UK has now been on a full-scale lockdown since the 23rd of March. It has been a period of extreme uncertainty and numerous changes, as the lockdown restrictions and self-isolation rules mean that many people have been confined to their homes for almost 2 months now. Some people may be used to working from home and adapting to this current situation pretty easily, others may be climbing the walls and daydreaming of work colleagues, banter and everyday routine.

One thing is for sure, spending large amounts of time in the exact same environment isn’t good for you, so it’s very important to mix things up and get a fresh perspective. This can be as simple as facing the window when you do your morning workout, instead of that wall that you still haven’t found the time to paint in lockdown, or moving your entire exercise set up outside (we’re sure the neighbours won’t mind).

Given the above, here at PT Academy, we have put together ‘The Circuit Room Challenge’. We want you to complete the below workout circuit 5 times and it must be in 5 different rooms of your house or garden:

Circuit 1 in the room of your choice (we suggest maybe starting in the lounge)

  • 10 x burpees

  • 10 x sit-ups

  • 10 x press-ups

  • 10 x squat thrusts

  • 10 x close-grip press-ups

  • 10 x leg raises

  • 10 x ab crunches

  • 10 x mountain climbers

Repeat the same circuit in 4 different rooms of your house (if you don’t have 4 different rooms then the hallway/landing still counts). This is classed as one lap. Then go back to room 1 and complete:

  • 9 x burpees

  • 9 x sit-ups

  • 9 x press-ups

  • 9 x squat thrusts

  • 9 x close-grip press-ups

  • 9 x leg raises

  • 9 x ab crunches

  • 9 x mountain climbers

Once again, repeat in 4 different rooms/areas of your house and then repeat the circuit by reducing the sets all the way down to one. It may sound simple, but we guarantee you’ll be working up a sweat by the end of the circuit.

With all our routines, this is entirely flexible for different skill levels. You can start by doing one lap of your house and then increase the number of laps day by day as you get fitter and stronger. The main point of this is to mix up your environment and get yourself moving at home, this will not only help your physical fitness but also have a great positive effect on your mental wellbeing and get those endorphins flowing!

So, put yourself to the test, throw on your activewear and utilize your home to achieve your goals, obtain a higher level of fitness and gain better mental clarity whilst in lockdown. You’ll be glad you did!
